And…I’m back!

September 25, 2012

Excitement mounts. In a couple days I'll be flying to Jakarta as one-sixteenth of Cappella Martialis to sing Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem together with the Reformed Oratorio Societies Jakarta and Singapore at the Aula Simfonia – incidentally, Jakarta's first and so far only symphony concert hall. The plan is to perform and then engage in post-concert rituals, which should hopefully rejuvenate one and all.

As you might've guessed the reason for my hiatus from blogging was a combination of part-time undergraduate studies, full-time employment and all-the-day-long singing. My conviction is that a normal human being has time and dedication for at most one avocational activity, and mine is classical ensemble singing. From singing Protestant hymns in church growing up to now singing sacred repertoire in a secular ensemble (the irony never fails to amuse), my skill has improved in leaps and bounds thanks to a very generous and caring voice coach/choir director.

Meanwhile work never fails to be equal parts interesting and taxing, and I remain ever grateful for the day I chanced upon the Craigslist job ad that CE posted. In case you're wondering it'll soon be 3 years that I've been part of the CE family. Time flies. I've likewise grown professionally and academically in leaps and bounds.

If this blog post appears rambling and pensive it probably is, since the objective is not to blog about serious stuff – not this time – but to reflect.

So I'll be off to perform what is likely the pinnacle of my amateur singing career, and back ready to tackle work, studies and life with renewed vigour.

Until then, dear readers.
