I met Ealden and Lhiza Escañan, both Agile coaches, when the husband and wife team attended a Cynefin Foundations training session in Hong Kong in 2018. In this interview, we discuss the application of complexity principles to their work, as well as life in the Philippines. Ealden and Lhiza will also share some of their takeaways from the Cynefin training session they attended.
The people of the Philippines are deeply resilient people, who are capable of on-going reinvention and complex adaptation. The country’s economy is heavily reliant on remittances from overseas Filipinos, and the remittances surpass foreign direct investment as a source of foreign currency. This means some interesting fragilities, but also highlights how resilient the Filippino people are. Touching on these conditions in the backdrop, we will also touch on some of the issues that face organisations who become overly comfortable with living consistently on the edge of Chaos; and how mindfulness of the dynamic between Complex and Order can be a good reminder to selectively identify areas where we can potentially cultivate more stability.
