Cold & bright (sic)

February 2, 2015

It was a bright cold day this morning and I had to take the backroad out of the village.  The bridge that connects us to the main road is being remade or refurbished and the whole process is planned to take eight to nine weeks.   I was rewarded with a glorious sunrise in the clear cold air.   That put me into a reflective mode.   I love walking at this time of the year as the sky is clear, the air crisp and there is always a sense of danger.  I got some of the greatest pictures of my life recently on such a walk.  You don’t want to be trapped out at night if the temperature is below freezing.  The night draws in quickly so you don’t have the tolerance of long evenings that you get with summer walking.   All in all you feel more alive when you are on the edge of your comfort zone.

So no major thoughts today, but just that reflection and a Robert Frost Poem that came to me as I drove on after parking up for the photo

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.
