Good company

January 3, 2012

DSCN1438.jpgSo its the second day of the new year and I am on my first flight of 2012 to Zurich. Its the 0725 flight so with long term parking needs I ended up staying near Reading and accepting a 0430 alarm call which was not welcome after a post Rugby match arrival at 2330, but better than going home and getting up even earlier. It was a welcome flight though as it is to spend a couple of days with Simon Bennett, Steve Freeman, Joseph Pelrine and Karl Scotland. All of them have been using Cynefin in various ways in connection with the Lean and Agile movements. From an initial meeting between Simon and myself in Starbucks Sydney and several online conversations. we had collectively decided it was time to find a way to put a bit more coherence around the use of complexity theory in software design, development and implementation (with a bit of Project Management thrown in for good measure).

Joseph offered to host at his house in Almens, a small hamlet above Thusis in the Swiss Alps. Almens has an interesting statue on its approach, novel enough for me to use its picture on this post. It is by a local artist Robert Indermaur. Aside from the location, the other attraction of the location was that Joseph has cooked in Michelin starred restaurants and we were privileged to enjoy the product of this training tonight. To be fair we but in a lot of work before then with a full day to come tomorrow. More on that then.
