Health and care: making sense of the landscape ahead

March 31, 2022

For the last two years we have been working with our network members and clients in the NHS, the Royal College of Nursing and beyond to try to make sense of the pandemic and how its impacting healthcare professionals, leaders and patients and their families/carers.  As Covid cases begin to rise once more and various worlds continue to open and unravel in unknown ways, it seems like an apt time to share how we have been reflecting on our future directions of travel.

Our new health and care brochure outline our three areas of focus: healthcare worker wellbeing and engagement, patient journeys, leadership.  Along with SenseMaker, the brochure also shares other ways in which you can engage with us including the development of three workshops designed to provide a foundation in complexity thinking /doing and opportunities to join a topic-based cohort training of SenseMaker through our online Virtual Quickstart. If you would be interested in signing up for updates on the availability of such a course, or you know someone else who might be, please sign up for the “health and care topic-based cohort” here.

Finally, you can also keep in touch for updates on off-the-shelf SenseMaker Pulses here which will be coming in the next week or so.  These are designed to provide an opportunity to try out the SenseMaker tool, with minimal experience.

Last but not least, during some workshops held with nurses over the last few weeks, there was a felt sense of the importance of coming together to share stories and learn from what is happening in ongoing ways.  With this in mind, we are making the moves to build more of a community of practice for those applying complexity thinking in the fields of health and care.  We envision that this will include regular meetups and sharing opportunities but are also open to what this might look like based on interest and need.  If you have any thoughts on how we should shape this and what you might like to get out of such a CoP, we would love to hear from you, so please feel free to reach out to our health programme lead, Ellie Snowden and researcher Nina Abrahams.
