“Culture is the patterning of our interactions with our environment and it is not susceptible to design principles appropriate to the creation of bridges and software programs, although it is susceptible to the design principles of a gardener or an architect.
It has however become the new bucket class into which anything involving human factors is deposited, on gets the blame for all unsuccessful activities, including the introduction of new technology, major re-engineering projects, mergers and acquisitions and the non-ethical behaviour of Directors or traders.
The significant differences between efficient (engineering) and effective (human) systems are identified as the basis for a new perspective on organisational culture.
