I recently spent a day in Copenhagen working with my old friend Mette Laursen of LinKS. I have worked with them before and it is a really interesting group with a fascinating agenda and it is good to see them expanding outside of Scandinavia. We are planning to do some more work with them shortly. While I was there I recorded a podcast with Mette. Its a high level summary of sense-making: pattern based intelligence, the fractal nature of narrative, impact measurement for Liverpool museum, the SEE-ACT-ATTEND model and a full recitation of the children’s’ party story (with the appreciative enquiry variation, but not in its Platonic form). It concludes with the simple truth with which I concluded yesterday’s post.
If you attempt to control everything you loose control, if you stand above the system amplifying good patterns and disrupting bad ones, if you influence evolution rather than trying to design against idealistic outcomes; then, and only then do you achieve what control is possible. Its all about doing more with significantly less.
PS: For those waiting for the podcast that Euan and I put together after a winter walk in Wiltshire, its with me for review and will be published shortly
