Nice, Bristol & the Trough of Bowland

February 9, 2011

bedrooms2.jpgIt’s been a bit of an academic week this week with a lunch time research seminar at Nice yesterday and a Blockley lecture to deliver at the University of Bristol this evening, not to mention a visit to my Alma mata on Friday. The Nice lecture is podcast with a link to the slides, the Bristol one was videoed so it will be up on their site at some stage, I will broadcast when it is. The Nice material will be familiar to regular readers but I have been building in some better material in on power laws (borrowing from Boisot at the last AoM). One interesting observation from both sessions: why is that economists can’t grasp the concept of a model which describes but does not proscribe?

Tomorrow I set off for Glasgow and Edinburgh via Lancaster. Collecting more pictures for my “places I have lived collection”. I’m staying in the Inn at Whitewell, which is one of the top three inns in Britain on my assessment. I could never afford it while a student, but now I have a riverside room with Victorian fittings and a four poster! They also brew their own beer have a great menu and there is no indication that broadband has arrived since my last visit. The next blog may be retrospective in consequence
